With the crank at TDC ,the slot in the oil pump drive is not parallel with the cam center line
The how to books I have tell me it should be. I don't see how I missed this I thought I had this right.Am I missing something here. The slot in the oil pump drive is out of parallel by at least 10 crankshaft degrees after TDC. It's a 383. well what motor are you workin on??
the smallblocks will have the slot pointing towards the #1 cyl. and the big blocks will will have the slot pointing towards the the !o'clock and seven o'clock pos. it really don't make any diff where it's pointing as long as the wiring on the cap matches the rotor when everthing is wired up. carl http://members.xoom.com/dustermocar/carl.html ------------------ mocar or nopar |

If your cam is centerlined correctly, you should be able to line the slot up fairly close to the cam. I run 38 degrees of total advance with a mechanical disributer, so what I do is rotate the crank until the degree wheel reads 38 degrees before TDC on the compression stroke. At that point the slot should be almost paralel with the cam.If it's out a tooth either way I go back to checking the cam centerline. RBs not small blocks.
