392 Stroker heads

Hi! This is my first post on this forum, although I have visited this site many times. I live in far west TX and I am currently restofying a 1970 Challenger WSS. I have kept the 318 and plan to to bore it .040" over and throw in a 4 inch crank with all the other necessary bits. My question is this: I plan on using this vehicle as a "hot" street/strip car with a fairly serious cam, I'm stuck between the Magnum R/T and W2 cylinder heads...price wise and performance wise...any comments and or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated! Thanks
-Ross

Out of the box, the W2 head will outflow the Magnums, ported the W2 will REALLY outflow the Magnums. The bare W2 heads are $80 cheaper than the Magnums.

Sounds like a no-brainer, right? Not so fast. The valve gear for the W2 will be a lot more expensive than the Magnums, so there goes the cheaper part. Neither one has a good selection of intake manifolds, but the W2 manifolds are definitely a high-perfomance piece. The W2 also can use better W2-only headers, again pricey. But they do come with a dual exhaust flange so you can cheap out if you want to (but why would you?)

How much horsepower do you want to make? The W2s are definitely a race head, ported they can take well over 600 HP. Stock, the Magnums can easily support 400, and ported can go into the 500 range. How fast is your wallet?

Default Good point there 72Challenger, but....

Hughes has done interesting things with the Magnum R/T head. Click here to check out a high flowing head.

The W-2 was the way to go for ultra stompin street. Still is, but at what price?
Knock'em dead kid, knock'em dead.
