Default 383 A-body build (help)

Got my engine out of the machine shop. '69 383 .030" over, forged flat-tops, freshened 906's unported small valves, MP .450" cam, and cheapo B-body headers (they fit tight). The car is a '73 Scamp, 8.25" rear with 3.23's, 727 with stock converter.

This has been a long build due to the fact that I put it on hold to get married. Now I'm ready to finish it. The goal is low to mid 13's in the 1/4, which I'm not sure is possible with my mild setup. I'd like to keep it driveable, it may never see more than a few mile of highway cruising though. Price is an issue, probably about $1500 to put into it now. I was thinking maybe switch cams to something around .480-.500", and throw a 2500-2800 rpm converter on there as well as some 3.73 or 3.91 spinners in the rear. Ok, what do you guys think?

i dont know about the a 8.25 but other than that is sounds good... and yeah that car should do 13s if it hooks up i would stick my money in 391s and sure grip and the SS springs that will make it hook up for sure. i would suggest a biger stall conveter if you plan on going to a bigger cam but yeah a 3000 stall or biger will do for sure and be sure to just keep everything tight..

Good luck

Thanks, I thought I was on the right track there. Nice Scamp by the way. Would you know what the largest tire size that fits in the Scamp wheelwell? I'm curious because I now have to upgrade from the 14x6 rallye wheels.

I've got 8" wheels on my 69 Valiant, you should be able to get that, too. Offset or backspace has to be just right, though. I know that on an 8" wheel, 4.5" of backspace works great with a 245 tire, but you may need to look at 4.25 if you want to go much wider. It's getting close to the outer wheel well at that point.
