you'll need a valve spring compressor. you could probably rent one at autozone.

what about spring pressure....should I have to worry about that?

I know my current springs are shimmed....should I just transfer the shims over witht e new springs or not use the shims?

that all depends on the installed height of the spring. i think stock bb are around 1.86-1.90 area. if you have triple springs, the seats probably have been machined for the springs and the installed height was set with the shims. so you need to check all this and a good single spring with damper is all you need for the cam your putting in. i would pull the heads to do this if it was me and check everything while there apart.

Exclamation other options

are to charge air into the cylinder to keep the valves closed and use a butterfly type spring compressor or stuff a nylon rope in the sparkplug hole and rotate piston up to press the rope into the valves, but if there is alot of WOT running on those heads you would be better off to inspect the whole thing and at least lap to check wear pattern.
