Default Differential

I pulled a 8 1/4 out of a 79 Volare w/ slant 6 to use behind my 360 .
The diff is much more heavy duty (larger and thicker springs too).

What was the most common Gear Ratio for these. I don't have the numbers off it cause the Tag was gone.

I guess my Question was too generic ? Or, nobody is here , they are out driving their Slants cause they don't have to work on 'em.

Average gear ratio was 2.76 unless it came from a cop car. They used 2.94, 3.23, and 3.55's. Best to just pull the rear cover and look at the number on the ring gear. Find a Dakota and get the 3.55 from it. They use the 8 1/4 and the gears will swap.

thank you dwc43 !! That is what we found..

Was a difficult swap too. Diff was 1.5 inches wider and spring and shock mounts different. Had to use old springs and hangers to bolt it up so we used the small leaf from the 8 1/4 springs to stiffen the ride. Old drive line went right back in though (that's the only thing that went easy).

Glad you got it fixed. I just noticed the date on that post. Did not realize it was a month old. Was just surfing the site this morn.
