Default How do I make a low COMP 440 GO Fast?

Heres the deal,

I came across a real clean 80 Volare for peanuts...since may dart is far from done , I was gonna use the parts I got in my shop to build somthing to keep me busy for the summer.

I have a fresh 440 .030 built with ultra low compression TRW 2388
pistons, a set of template ported 915's that have been milled .030

Both a single plane M1 intake and an Eddy Torker 440 intake

A holley 750 DP

A TCI 2800 stall converter, and a 3.91 8.75 gear set that would bolt in (with some mods) the Volare.

and a MP 509 cam which I feel is unsuitable for the motor.

What cam can I use with this combo that will make max street/strip power.

I know the right thing to do is buy new slugs, but I want to concentrate my fund on the Dart.

Any tips, what should I use, and what cam timming, Ignition timming?

Thanks...

hello, try a short duration cam on tight lobe centers. 220/230 range, 106-108 LCA. this will help raise cylinder pressure,=more torque. a dual plane manifold will help also. bring total timing in by 1600 RPM.

tight lobe centers?

I would call for a custom cam, tell them of your plight, ask for a gind designed to help build cyl. pressure. Pay attention to head work, mild porting, proper stll, decent gear to back it. Lighten car as much as possible.

You could super charge the 440 and when you get the Dart up and running put the super charger on it

My son's Coronet with 9:1 CR ran high 12's with a MP 484-284 cam and 3.55 gears.

In my experience, big blocks run rather well with low compression, but I guess it depends on how quick you want to run. It's up to you to decide if you want to be quick on 87 octane, or a little quicker on the high-priced stuff.
