Question How 2 Replace spring bushings (or Where do you get those U bolts?)

Ok..I got my XHD OE springs for my Dart. Smaller main eye on the back, same as my car has now. My question is: Is it worth it to knock out the front bushing and replace with Polyurethane?
If so, how hard is it to do?

Going with Firm feel polys on the rear for sure.

Also, where should I get new Ubolts for the axle? Is there an exact fit that can be found at the dealership? (diplomat, 5th ave, etc). Found some at dealer, but they are a 1/2 inch longer, with an extra 1 inch of thread over what I have now.
Would this be a problem if I can't find anything closer?

No. But when they are worn out, fine.

Bring it to a machine shop and save yourself a headache.

They can be had through MoPar performance or springs and things. Stock or otherwise. The extra inch in length is not a problem. So long as you don't run out of thread to tighten the bolts up.

My supply of U bolts is generally from ASH Auto Safety House. These are the guys that set up school busses here in the Phoenix area. maybe you have one in Texas. Many Pep Boys and Autozones carry U bolts also.

I just installed a set of XHD from Mancini Racing on my Duster. Do you have to replace U-bolts, I didn't, and as far as bushings they come installed in the front and I used the rears over again. I could see replacing the rears if I knew where to get them. It was a very easy install.

HDDuece, You can get those rear bushings from Mancini racing. Go look. MoPar performance also sells them in plain old rubber as well as poly uero.
it is a good idea to replace the u-bolts, not a mandotory thing. They see alot of strees.

Thanks - I won't bother with the fronts, i'll just order the poly rear bushings then.

Pep boys only has "universal" U bolts (universally fits nothing)..

The ones from the dealer should work fine... the are 1/2 inch longer, but have 1 extra inch of thread.

Murphy's law...If I DON'T buy new bolts, I'll break the old ones.
If I DO buy them, the old ones will come off without a hitch..

It's kinda funny like that..

I can fix an M1 Tank and have rebuilt M2 Bradley fighting vehicles from the ground up (literally).

I've worked at Penske Truck Leasing and know Century and FLD Freightliners inside and out.

But it's funny how the "little" projects (like spring replacements on an A-body) are the ones I've never done......

I guess that's why I'm having so much fun

LOL, I have heard that before from military freinds.
Those front eye bushings are not fun. More of a waste of time to do unless needed.

Don't forget there is a left and a right. I didn't know but I got lucky. After I was done the car sat about a inch and a half higher on the right side. I adjusted the torsion bars to even it out. I had to screw the drivers side in a lot more then the passengers. I assume that this is because the driver side torsion bar is more worn out. I don't know what else would make it sit uneven since I did get the springs on the correct sides. 1982 passenger, 1981 drivers.
