440 Questions
Hello,
I have a 440 out of a police cruiser, 1978 or so. Is there anything special about this engine? I also can get a hold of a 440 out of a motor home. which would be my best option for performance and reliability? I know this is not a lot of info. Thanks a whole lot. |

without getting them sonic checked, it's hard to say which would be your better choice.
Odds are, the car 440 has the center hole drilled in the crank, to be tapped up for a 4-speed. Odds are, the motor home engine does not. |

The motorhome engine may have a different crank flange as well as different heads. The cop car motor would probably be the easiest swap, just be sure to have the proper flywheel/flex plate/torque converter to use with your 78 cop car motor's cast crank.
If you got room though, snag the motor home motor too, PARTS IS PARTS!!! |

I'd say it is a push between those 2 engines, if all things are equal. Just buy which ever has the best deal for the most parts. Or both would be good too. Can't ever get enough stuff.
