Weiand Stealth?
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Weiand Stealth intake on a 318...
I'll be putting this intake on a pretty stock 318 with dual exhaust in a 73 Scamp. I plan on topping it off with a TQ. I'm planning on tearing the motor down this winter and bumping up the compression, adding a bigger cam, headwork, ported heads (probably 360), headers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust. I'll be putting a 2000 to 2500 stall into the 904 that's behind it and tossing a 8 3/4 with 3.55s in the rear. For the most part, I just need to "get by" on the current setup through the summer and I don't want to be stuck getting another intake next spring. |

I have this intake on a warmed over 340. I like the response. You will want to check hood clearance, it sits high. If you go with this intake, do yourself a favor and upgrade to 360 heads so the ports match.

I'm not too terribly concerned with hood clearance.
The hood has already been cut by one of the previous owners and they added a six-pack scoop. I have no problem firing up the cutoff tool and zipping open a bigger hole. |

Then your in good shape. A buddy has 1 on his 9.0-1 318 with the MoPar purplr 280 cam and 3.55's. Eats Camaros.
Go for it. |

Sounds like it'll work fine for my current/future setup.
It's as good as bought. |

Just a little update on the whole intake thing...
I had my brother order the Stealth for me (he manages an auto parts store, so I rather give the money to them than Jeg's or Summit) and, well, the warehouse screwed up. They sent me an Action Plus I'm planning on building this car to a solid mid to low 13 second car on a small block and 3.55 rear. I'm not sure if I'm going to try to keep the 318 or go to a 360, kind of a toss-up at this point, _but_ whichever motor I build will need to be able to turn 6000 RPM. So, here's my question...will this intake be able to turn to the 6-grand mark or should I send it back and wait an extra week or two (they have to order it from the factory) on the Stealth? |

Reading the Jeg's site, it is stated that the Action + manifold will turn to 6000.

Hmm...let me rephrase the question.
Will the Action Plus do well spinning to 6 grand, or will it start choking off sooner than that? |

If you are having doubts, send it back and order the one that is a single plane and rated to 7000 rpm.

You will have a difficult time if you are trying to run a pretty stock 318 with 3.55's and hit low 13's. Get the bottle.

Is the Stealth a spread bore, will the T.Q. fit without an adapter?

Note the plenum area. (Under where the carb sits) It seems the Weiand Stealth can be made into a spreadbore intake. I really can't see a difference otherwise. There seems to be enuff meat to to accept the T-Q. It looks as if it has the same cutout area for the huge secondarys. Just a square bore on top. |

Thanks for the link Rumblefish, I've been checking the specs and I talked to one of the Tech guys at Holley.
They seem to think that the Action Plus would be better... Quote:

I think the Action + will do well.

Thanks for the input.
So far, the only thing the Action Plus doesn't have going for it is, well, nothing. If anyone else wants to chime in here, feel free...I haven't paid for it yet |

I have had both the Stealth and an X-Celerator single plane on a mildly cammed 273, here's the scoop:
X-Celerator kicks the Stealth's butt on top end. It'll keep pulling to the rev limiter (6250). The Stealth has much better low torque(no surprise there), but flattens out after 5000 RPM, even on the little 273! I would have thought the Stealth would get better mileage, but it doesn't. The best I got with the X-Celerator was 17 MPG with mixed highway/city driving. The freakin Stealth has never got better than 13 MPG!! The Stealth is more picky about carb size too. Too big and it will buck and fuss. The X-Celerator tolerated bigger carbs without a problem. I have no idea why. Another thing, the intake bolts on the X-Celerator are difficult to get a wrench on; needs 12-pt bolts baaad. Busted nuckles on hot valve covers not fun. Both manifolds required trimming of the nitrous bosses to clear valve covers. Might just be my heads, though. Enjoy...... |
