Stock 340 cam
I have built a MP 360 shortblock( 9:1) with 360 J heads, stock 340 cam (new from MP), edelbrock performer RPM intake and stock 340 exhaust manifolds for my 69 Dart convertable. The motor makes good power, but idles rougher than other motors I've had in the past with a stock 340 cam. I have to idle the motor at about 1200 rpm in nuetral to get it to idle in gear, any lower and it will barely idle. I am running a 166k torque converter( MP unit). The cam was installed by lining up the arrows on the sprockets. The sprockets and chain were roller types that came with the shortblock. I'm trying to decide if I need to try advancing or retarding the cam or if MP has changed the grind on the stock 340 cam. I'm spoiled by the idle in my Ram and Dakota, but I like power. I may try another cam, any suggestions?

I had that same cam in my 340, and it idled like a taxi cab (yuk) Before i replaced my old pvc valve on the valve cover it idled rough. You may also have a vacumn leak somewhere. That cam should idle at around 700.
