can a transmission oil cooler be too big??
Hi!
I've got an A604 auto tranny in a 1991 New Yorker FWD that was rebuilt last year, they added a tranny cooler, kinda small, just 4" x 11". I hear this model tranny runs too hot and needs a external cooler. I live in Buffalo NY, it gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer, if put a big cooler in to cover the summer heat, will I damage it in the winter? would my tranny be too cool ?? Any recomendations guys ??? Update: I'm told this tranny is a dog and needs to run cool, but how cool can I go before something else snaps? Also if I use an oil thermostat what tempurature should I use? thanks |

You can get a thermostat for the oil cooler to keep it at operating temps. You can get them fro the engine oil coolers too.

We run tranny coolers year round here, and it gets down to -35/40 some days in January. Your little cooler won't hurt a thing. And it will really help the tranny live in the high summer heat........djs
