which fuel pump should i get for my 440
i have a 68 440 with 67 915 heads i plan on building it up what fuel pump should i get? i drive this car on the road once in a while at the strip i kindof want to keep it mechanical un less i should get electric

A Carter Mechanical would work fine with your set-up and if you desire an electric a Mallory 110/140 would work great and they are very quiet. Those are the two that I most see recommended. I have run the carter in the past with with no complaints. My car sits a lot so I decided to go electric ( Holley Red Pump). I like that fact that I can fill up the fuel bowls after sitting awile and also helps prevent vaporlock. When this Red Pump quits I will buy a Mallory 110/140. Its a bit to noisy for me. It works fine though. Chris

The stock Carter will be plenty, latter on if you build it up you can go to the street strip Carter. You can get both from Summit Racing for around 40 to $50.

I've heard good about the street carter. However, many people have had to go through several strip carters, before they found one that actually delivered good pressure while racing.

We use the strips on our oval track cars, and regulate them to 8 psi and they work quite well.

On the same subject, but off on a tangent here - what should I set the fuel pressure at on my mildly modified 360 with a Thermoquad? I have a MP mechanical fuel pump (about 80gph and 8+psi if I remember rightly) and a Holley pressure regulator.

It should be set for 7 - 9 PSI. 8 PSI is right about where you want to be. That pressure has nothing to do with engine modifications. It has to do with the needle valves on the carb. Much over 9 PSI and you will have enough pressure to push the valves open and feed the bowls more fuel than the engine is drawing from them.

Unseating the needle valves with too much pressure and flooding the carb was my main concern, but I honestly didn't know how much my old Thermoquad could take. Thanks for the help - very much appreciated.

Carter is the best fuel pump ,got a carter on all my vehicles,same as my dad.. his 75' powerwagon sat 10 years until me n him fixed it up 2 years ago.. put a new battery in it,climbed in ,pumped the gas pedal a few times and it fired right up.. and that carter had been in there a long time.. my ramcharger has a carter.. that engine is turning over at 700,000 miles soon and that carter has been on there since 345,007miles
