Sticky turning
A weird thing just started happening with my Duster, 72.
Sometimes when I'm turning to the left, the steering seems to catch momentarily, and then it releases and then it'll catch again. When I'm driving straight it seems ok. Very un-nerving. I do have power steering and the pump seems to be working, I just don't know if the problem is in the pump or the steering box or somewhere else. About a year ago I rebuilt the front end, ball joints, bushings etc. Anyone? |

You might try looking at the tie rods and see if the outers rub on your headers when turning. Sounds like something is rubbing to me, look for anything that might be interfering with smooth motion of the steering gear and that the steering box is mounted tight to the k member. Doubtful it would be loose but you never know.

loose belt on pump? I have a Rebuilt power pump (round Federal type) and a rebuilt never installed steering box that has never seen fluid if you want it, 70 bucks for both. Come up to Tustin and pick 'em up.
