Anybody running 4.56 gears with a 340 or 360 out there? Im looking for a ballpark figue on where I should be in my 340 Challenger w/28x9 slicks. Is there a formula for estimating this based on my times with 3.91 gears?
Thanks again

Sorry dude I didnt see your other post, you should be capable of 1.65- 1.70 60ft times.Launch rpms will determine alot of what you actually turn,2 suggestions though, more cam duration-up to 249* at .050 and bigger tube headers- 1 3/4".You should have around 3500 stall rpm this will really help 60 ft I think you could even hit 1.5 something. On an average 456vs391 should reduce your ET by .15 or so,the 456s will put you around 5800-6000 rpms in the traps,do you know your redline on this cam? it should be around 6200 or so....PRO...

I think I could really use some chassis tuning skills, 3370 lbs, 4.10 gears, 12.5/30/15 M/T ET Streets, 1.50 60 ft time and 10.06 ET.

Hey DartGT,
Those are some impressive numbers, now tell us how you did it with a 340 on pump premium gas and no nitrous. Im trying to keep this car cruisable but be able to run 12's. Now the 440 my brother and I are building for an A body will be different...

PRO, Thanks, That gives me something to shoot for. Cam redlines around 6200, which is where I want to shift I think to keep my bottom end together w/stock Ertel replacement pistons/resized rods/Arp bolts etc.

I don't know how to make that with a 340, pump gas and no nitrous. Or I do, but that requires a blower or a couple of turbos. I've got a stroker 440 in my car, but still on pump gas, through exhaust and no nitrous. I drive the car in normal traffic, although not daily. But a couple of times a week, the gas costs a little over 4$ a gallon here and the car isn't actually a 'mileage maker'. About 6.5 mpg in the city and a little over 10 mpg on the highway. One day when I end up getting poorer every day, I will get me a new 'race' block, lower the CR and add two turbos, intercooler and fuel injection, but that's still at least two years away.

DartGT,
Is your stroker a kit from Muscle Motors or another manufacturer? or did you buy a MP crank and do it yourself?? My brother and I have toyed with the idea of stroking the 72 440 we've got as our next project

Actually, the history of my engine is pretty weird. One fellow frist bought the rotating assembly from McCandless for his '66 Dart. It had Wiseco flat tops, C&A steel rods and the MP crank. The car run 11.8 with ported 452 heads and a crane mechanical cam. Later hw switched to ported big valve 915 heads and the car run 11.6. He thought it wasn't enough and ordered fully race ported Indy 440-1 package from McCandless, Milodon gear drive and a roller cam package + a 5000 stall converter. The heads had been milled for 13:1 CR and the car run 10.86. After that I bought the car as a rolling chassis since he thought a '67 would run better. I thought I would get a ready body for a decent price, but ended up rebuilding the car completely. After a while with the '67, he thought that it would be quicker with a chevy engine, so he sold the mopar to me for about 3000$ complete. And that included everything, fuel pumps, regulators, headers, trans, MSDs and some spares like pushrods etc. I installed a smaller cam and dished pistons and did some other 'free' mods, and the first time at the track the car run 10.16/135 mph. The previous owner run two years with the engine, and I have been using it for two years. During this time the engine has never been tuned, nor isn't it 'blueprinted', so there should still be some potential left. Best ET to date is 10.06 and best trap speed 137 mph in full street trim. About a year ago I tried to get a '9' with open headers and race gas. The schedule was pretty tight and I only could make two runs, the first one was 10.005 and the second 10.009 with 1.7 second 60 ft times! AARRGGH. The original owner never got the chevy in to the '67 Dart, instead he sold the car as a roller, and I'm still sorry that I didn't have any money at the time. The price he asked was about 700$ for a 2D post Dart, completely set up for a big block, lots of chrome, flip front end, custom interior with about 15 autometer gauges, T-A shifter, 8 3/4" rear with spool and steel axles, disc brakes, centerlines etc. Another ARRGH! He bought a '55 chevy and put the engine in it. It was a 495 lightning engine with Lingenfelter ported Pontiac Pro heads and Kinsler EFI. Now that was an expensive engine. The car had 18.5" M/T ET street tires, four link, trans brake etc. And it run well too, 9.7's. I still managed to win him in the only side by side race we were at. Anyway, recently he sold the engine for about 8000$ and has retired from the hobby. It's nice that the people who have money buy the parts, and sell them frequently for a decent price. Otherwise I propably would never have been able to put a package like this together with my own money.

Dart GT(and others)
Sounds like my plan, with a wife and two kids, I buy everything I can on the cheap. I only could afford the 340 cuz a Chevy guy had bought the garage it had been sitting in for 15 years and wanted to get rid of his Mopar junk.$500 with steel crank, replacement pistons and x heads that had never been used. Found my carb, intake, oil pan, rockers, shocks, tranny and rear used on the web, and ponied up the bucks only for my head porting, and cam. Traded a gun for my slicks, coerced my brother into painting the car you know the deal. I'll bet there are a lot of Mopar guys who love the web, it evens things out with the Chevy boys who seem to dominate every friggin swap meet I go to
