gear vendors overdrive/underdrive
Just wondering if anyone out there has any feedback on the gear vendors unit. I am considering one for my 74 Challenger. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I think you've gotta drive a hell of a lot to make it pay for itself anytime soon. I figure in my truck it would take me about 6 years at current gas prices for it to pay off, and it's highly unlikely that I'll keep the truck that long, IMHO.
Having said that, I'd like to get one, but I just can't justify the cost right now. If I had the money sitting around burning a hole in my pocket, I'd get a new engine. |

I agree. Not worth the money or the agrevation of the install.

I have read nothing but good about the GV units. With that OD, you can runn deeper gears and still keep the lower RPMs while driving on the highway.

Whether or not it's "worth the money or the agrevation (sic) of the install" depends on what you're looking for.
If you want to save enough money in gas to pay for the installation, you probably won't but if you want the ability to have the performance advantage of lower rear end gears and the ability to cruise at highway speeds without stressing the motor, OD is what you want and the GV is a bulletproof unit. Compared to trying to stuff a 500/518 into an E body, the GV installation is a snap. |

I want the GV unit to bring down my highway RPM's as I now have 4.10's in the car. I'm not really worried about fuel economy too much as this is not my daily driver, just a weekend toy. I did have a 518 in the car at one time, so I have done that swap. Sounds like this unit will be a piece of cake compared to the 518.

I read an article about an install in a full size B body, and they had to cut the floors. I had considered one until I read that article. GV will tell you that you do NOT have to cut the floors but that is not correct according the the article. I Had them send me all the measurements and I told them that It would not go into my 64 Dodge without cutting the floors . At that point they countered dicked their selves and said that You might have to put some large dimples in the floor. My question is how big. So I wrote them off . Hope this helps . MiMax

Besides adjusting the floor, how much weight does it add to your ride. A 100 lb.s is worth a 1/10th.

Yeah it will add some weight but I will be upgrading to a stroked small block with much more jam than my current 360. The 518 that I had in the car weighed a ton plus I had to make small dimple for that as well.

The GV adds 42 lbs to the car. This takes into consideration the shorter driveshaft, the electronics and the tailshaft switch. If you want to have decent drivetrain angles, you do have to cut a slice out of he tunnel. you need to be able to run about a 1/2" spacer between the trans mount and the trans. Without cutting , you have to lower the trans mount bolt hole about 1/2".
