On another topic, there was a discussion on trans brakes. What I want to know is do you need to upgrade the converter when using one?? I'm going to put my 'brake in this spring and I've heard pros and cons about this. Most of the converter manufacturers have a specific converter for use with a trans brake, but is it really necessary to upgrade???

it use to be a rule of thumb that if your motor was under 600-700 hp you didn't have to do anything.
but most of the convertor manufacters now put a steel stator in all trans brake convertors now.
they must have found out that the alum stators weren't holding up to the abuse.

i just had one rebuilt and he put a steel stator in it.

Chris
you should upgrade your converter and also keep in mind you need to run a transmission shied or a transmission blanket unless you are NOT planning to have kid's some day

I have only used the brake in a SB street chevy and usual 10" converters. It lunched those converters regularily. My mopars dynamic was rebuilt three years ago because of a housing failure, and at the same time it was updated to accept the trans brake. This was a 800$ race unit in the beginning and the mods for the trans brake cost 250$ more.
