Default timing

I got the heads, cam, timing chain on today
And was woundering what to do next.
Does the distributor drive need to be a certain way?
The marks on the timing chain drive are about less then 1/2 tooth from where the other one is.
After I get that should I get the oil pump and that stuff on?
we are almost finished, and i cant wait. Then its time to dyno test it

Read how to rebuild my MoPar small block or big block and understand what there telling you.
This would solve the next line........

If it's a small block, the intermediate shaft will go in and twist. This should end with the slot pointing to the number1 cyl. Droping the distrib in next should have the rotor pointing at the #1 wire on the cap. The vaccum advance can should be pointing to the passenger side of the car. Not to any degree per-say, but in general. From there you'll ruff time it, then tune it all up.

Oil pump before intermediate shaft and distrib.

I do this right backwards when building an engine in the stand. I put the intermediate shaft in and then the dist. bolt it down. Roll the engine over on the stand and slide the oil pump on the shaft. That eliminates fighting with aligning up the shaft into the pump. Works much easier this way.

I see your point. I never had a problem with it though. I can see it being easier that way.

Naaaaa, I wouldn't do you like that. Besides, she's too far away from me and you know those long distance romances never work out anyway ....

gotta prelube everthing, all moving parts. no matter where distributor shaft ends up. watch oil pressure gauge, rotate 90 degrees, repeat 4 times,...oil pressure up,.........index distributor rotor.......pointing towards #1 cylinder...modern cars of course,.......(read muscle cars), fire in the hole...........keep revs up,.........no knocking noises after ten minutes .......good to go. drive it like you stole it!
