Starter trouble
I'm sure this is a common problem but, it is the first time I have had it. I have a 360 engine. With an old (large starter) that needs to be changed. With the headers in the way I am having a heck of a time getting it out. I drained the coolant unbolted that header, and I still don't have enough room because, the steering box is very close to the header. Any ideas how I can remove the starter? Thanks..

Don't know what body style or header brand you have but my 68 Cuda was a friggin nightmare to get apart. Had to drop the starter and header out the bottom together because neither one would come out past the other. It was a real trick not dropping the starter on me doing so. Bought a new mini starter to install when I put it back together.

You need to unbolt the bottom bolts on your motor mounts and raise the motor up too.Sometimes just the drivers side needs to be undone.

I agree with dwc43! On my 1973 Duster 340 when I replaced the fullsize starter with a mini starter I removed the drivers side tire, dropped the drivers side tie rod end & steering end, shoved it to the back of collector tubes and swung the pitman arm to the oil pan. The big starter dropped right out. No loosening header or motor mounts. Job takes an hour or so with the right tools.
