Default Engine is almost done!

Hey guys! My 318 buildup is almost finished.I just need to find a crysler blue color to paint my oil pan, Then put that on. I have th water pump on. I figured out the carb is 1 1/2" lower then my spaced 2 barrel carb. Which means more room.
1 problem maybe is-the valve springs are not the same height, the intake's are higher then exhuast. But I think thats how the machine shop made it, im not going to worry about it.
Now we have to get the tranny painted silvar and change the gasket and filter and put her back on. We also took out the A/C(not going to have it), and the condenser. Can you put the radiator into the condencors spot?
I guess were not going to dyno it, becuase im haveing surgury in a month and want ot get the motor in and running by the time I get my surgury, cuase the Doc says I cant lift nothin for 3 weeks. The only thing im worries me is the wiring, i forgot how it went back togather. I guess thats all I have to say for now.
Peace!

I tink the stem hieghts are diferent, beacuase the machine shop who do these redone the whole heads. And the stem says +.15 for the width.
And is there a place that you can buy turbos for mopars? I saw a place in a mopar magazine, but forgot what its called. I just want to check out all the goodies. And maybe ill put a turbo in the "teen" in a couple years
I guess ill have to be careful and not try to break that weaklink 7 1/4 rear. Ill just have to drive decent.

Sounds like you have some sunk valves in those heads. Did he replace any of the valves or did he use all the old ones?

IT wont blow it up, but boy will it hurt the Hp since the valve is not opening up enough on center to get all the air flow possible. I think I'd find me a better machine shop if that's the best they can do.

We already have the heads bolted in and ready to startup. I guess we'll just find out, when we start it up. Maybe a carb spacer will provide for the lost vavle hp?
whats the place that has turbos for mopars?

The spacer wont make up for that lose of hp. The heads are the key to most all of your hp. Don't mess with turbos on V8's. There's cheaper and eaier ways to make one run faster than a turbo car. Besides, you'ld have to invest about $1500 for a injection system to run a turbos the right way.

I dont ever remember installing heads with different height valves.Anybody else? Not good.Would different lenght pushrods compensate?Get with the machinist that did it and let us know WTF.The 7 1/4 rear will work with narrow tires and no traction helpers. If it hooks up it will blow up.

Lengeth of the valve can change from year to year, manufacture to manufacture.

Default valve heights

all the mid 70's heads I ever did for dodges all had the same installed height from intake to exhaust, the year model might cause a change but would be consistent through the head. if I am not mistaken, in one of the posts it was mentioned that the stem had .015 on it, that would mean that someone put a valve with an oversized stem to avoid replacing the guide. but still the int and exhaust overall height oughta be the same, but will check my books and verify.

Idea

you might be able to get by if you use some adjustable rocker arms off an old 273. you probably can find some in the junkyards, I seem to see them almost everytime I hit the yards.

That wont make any diff at all. The valves will still open the same amount therefore flow will be hurt since they reinstalled the old sunk valves.

Confused

With the heads off you should be able to put a straight edge across the valve tips and it should touch all tips if not find another shop sounds like you may have been given the Royal Shaft. I would go back and kick some fuss or butt

Yea, the very tips of the valves are the same, but the just the springs im worried about. I guess Ill try to forget about those springs and move on. BTW, today we got the oil pan on. Now its ready to kick butt!
Or just need the trnny gakset and filter, then a 2500 stall for some acceleration. And we should be ready !
