Default do i need a mini starter?

I ahve a '74 dart and im going to put headers in. The engine is out(318). So would i need a mini starter to reduce weight and have better clearance?

what headers?
just wondering. it wont make much of a difference. go with a mini starter. its a great change.
also, go to the wrecking yard and find one from a dodge truck. 3.9, 5.2, or 5.9 are all the same, and its identical to the really expensive mopar performance piece.

Yeah all the new OEM starters for the V8s will fit old V8s.. they wont cost ya a fortune, and they'll give you twice the starter power, at half the original weight.

And if yer working with Headers, it will save you some headache during the installation.

Just make sure that you dont tighten the starter down before bolting the headers on, do a loose bolt fit on everything (starter and headers) and then when everything fits, tighten up the starter, and then tighten up the headers.

Thats my only advice.

Can't speak for everyone, but with a case of suds going for more than $20 I don't think $105 is all that expensive for a brand spanking new starter!

You don't need a mini starter, but the benny's of them are great. The weight savings is a few pounds. Thats nothing really. The clearance is better for sure. However, use of an older starter is close to the pipes. You may very well bake the starter dead very quickly. Use of heat tape from thermo tech (In example) is a good way to keep the starter alive. In the early years of my hot rodding, the later year 360 starter has a higher resistance to temp. Order one of those for a on the cheap replacement.
