rolleyes2 rear question

Hey just a couple quickies, I have an 85 Ram with a /6 2WD that is almost track worthy except for the mystery of the rear gears. The tag is gone, what were the comon ratio's for /6 with 727 trans. This is a one wheele wonder I tried it out today . Last but not least are these Diff's any good? Thanks.

IT should have a 9 1/4 which is pretty much bullet proof. Most likely with an auto and slant 6 it will have a 3.55. Could be a 3.21 too.

DW how do I tell, do you mean a 9 1/4 dana? Because it looks way to small to be a dana.

I remember having one of those monsters on a 3/4 ton I used for a parts truck. It was a little worse for wear. Poor thing got run over by an asphalt paver it crushed like half the passenger side of the truck. The dude still drove it to until the state cops made him park it. Those Rams are tough baby!!!

Default 71 satellite

i wondered the whole time whenever i seen that it said quantico, but after checkin your profile, now i know for sure. OOOH-Rah Gunny! Now, i was lookin back at your originial question, if you wanna know what gear ratio you got, jack up the rear end. Then put a mark with chalk across your tire. Then spin your tire till you made one complete rotation, and count how many times your driveshaft spins, that will give you an approximation. Put a mark on your driveshaft too, that will make it easier to see how many times it spins around. The last time obviously it will only be a fraction of a turn, so estimate if its either a quarter or a half turn. My guess it will turn either three and a quarter (3.23 gear ratio), or three and a half turns (3.55 gear ratio). Now i wonder if there are any other Marines on here, I'm a Cpl, stationed at Del Mar (Pendleton) with I MEF. I only got six months till i get out though, I'm not doin the long haul thing.....

When checking the gear ratio on a non-limited slip rear end, it's best to jack up one tire only and turn the tire TWO full turns while counting the driveshaft revolutions.

Thanks for the info guys I remember reading soemthing like this before. Powerwagon, I wish there were more Marines on here, I have seen some sweet Mopars expecially since coming to Quantico. I left Lejeune a year ago and it was Furd and Chebby, nothing but. Up here I have seen some nice daily drivers. One guy has a sweet Swinger, a tough Daytona, a few nice Darts and I saw a Cuda in its original skin role through the gate this morning!!!! I almost fell out when I saw that one. Semper!!
