Gripe No spark

Last week I couldn't get my wifes duster to start, No spark. I checked out the wire harness and it checked good. So I pulled the ECU and coil off my challenger and installed them on the duster, along with new spark plugs and plug wires. Then it fired right up but would sputter at about 3500 rpm. I tried to fire it up today with no joy! no spark. I swapped the coil and ECU to my dart for troubleshooting purposes and it ran fine, so those are good. I checked the ballast resister and it to is good. .5 on top and 5 ohms on the bottom. but with the ignition switch on I get 6 volts on the + and - of the coil. then with the engine cranking I get 8 volts on the + side of the coil. The battery is fully charged with 13 volts. I checked the grounding strap, bulk head connectors, and I have a good ground on the ECU. Up untill last week this car would fire up at the flick of the key.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the distributor, the harness plug will have a male prong and a female socket. Pull the secondary wire from the center of the distributor cap and hold the end close to a ground, then with the ignition switch on, touch the male prong to a good clean ground. Each time the prong is grounded and pulled away there should be a spark from the coil.

If so, everything up to the distributor is good and the distributor is the problem; usually the magnetic pickup.

Shoildnt you get full voltage when cranking, it is bypassing the ballast on a 2 prong ballast. Start bypasses, run goes through.

I agree, your not getting full voltage to the coil. Check it on the switch side of the ballast and see if your getting a full twelve volts to it to start with. May have a wiring or switch problem. Have you checked your bulk head connector too?

I finally figured it out

I had a pushed pin on a plastic connector for the warness. It looked together but the pin pushed out the backside.
