Unhappy 4 speed ID's

I have a 4 speed for swapping into our 66 Barracuda. Onlt thing is I want to rebuild it before it goes in. How do you tell if it is an OD flavor or not? Got it from a swap meet, so I dont know what it came out of. Also anyone make a neutral balance flywheel for a 273? THX Bob

The flywheel should be easy to get from MoPPar or any manufacturer really.
The O.D. units have a lever flipped upside down. But if it was flipped right side up, I'm not sure how to tell until it's to late and in.
Sorry.

The OD 833 also has a large diameter (5.125") front bearing retainer, the largest on the non-OD units is 4.80".

I don't know if I'm right, but I think almost all o/d a-833's have an aluminum case.

You are incorrect. I have several that are not aluminum, but I would like to have one.

Never cared for the aluminum ones myself-seen too many ST-10s in the junkpile after trying to survive behind a decent motor for very long.Might weigh more but last longer,I will stick with cast iron thank you.

The OD has a ratio of .73:1, so you could count revolutions in and out to see. The bearing retainer is a good indicator, but someone may have turned it on a lathe to make it fit a scatter shield, like I have done.

Yip it has the top rear lever turned upside down. I gotta measure the bearing retainer, also what about ordering rebuid parts. Is the year of the tranny needed? Thx. Also it should last, it is going behind a basically stock 273. -Bob
