rolleyes2 Manual to Power Steering

I was told to replace the lower steering shaft when converting from the manual steering in my 66 c-body to power steering from my 76 b-body.

Anyone know if there is a steering shaft kit for this swap, or am I
going to have to search the junk yards for certain parts? I have
both gearboxes off and the ps gearbox is ready to be installed. I
just need to know my options on the steering shaft.
Thanks,
Josh

Default Steering shaft

From what I know about this "i'm switching over to power steering from manual in a 64 a body" you need a steering shaft from the same car as yours but with power steering. Just to get the right length shaft.

This has nothing to with your problem, but Indianapolis is my home town. Also, both the power steering and manual steering gear boxes for your vehicles were made right there at the Chrysler Indianapolis Electrical Plant on 2900 Shadeland Ave (Rte 100). They also made alternators there. Maybe wiper motors too. The reason I know is because I worked in that plant from '64 to '66 The plant was closed years ago, along with the Western Electric plant across the road and down aways. That plant used to make ALL the telephones for Bell Telephone, before the breakup by the government.

Anyway, I just went back to Indy a couple of weeks ago for a nostalgia trip. I hadn't been back in almost 30 years. Of course, I had to drive by the old Chrysler Plant...............

On the power steering box, the sector shaft is bigger, and the input shaft is smaller than on the manual box. You will need to find a donor car and get a pitman arm, steering column coupler, and the steering column (or the shaft from it). The pitman arm will look the same, but have bigger splines. The column shaft needs to be shorter to acommodate the longer p/s box. When you're done, get the car aligned to power steering specs (caster change).

You will need a pwer steering coluum to mate to your power steering box. Time to start searching the salvage yards.

Most any '66 and up that has it. You might have to swap your ignition and blinker switches and such to retain the proper color code on your wires though, but that's not a big issue.

You should also be able to swap the shaft into your original column. I've done this on vans and A-bodies, I'm sure a C-body would be just as easy.
