Trany Leak
I have a leak on my 1966 727 trans that is coming from the input location for the lshift linkage.
My question is, does the trans need to come out to replace the seals, or can it be done in car? The shop manual doesn't show it very good on the pictures and it does not explain how to fix it. Tool |

If its just the shifter you can do that in vehicle-need to remove the valve body is all.

Seal replacement

But it is a thight space to work in. I would recomend droping the cross member to let the tailshaft down some. This will give you a little more room to work. |

With the limited working room above the shift lever, it's hard to drive the new seal in; it's best to pull the new seal in with a bolt and nut through some large washers top and bottom.
Check the fit of the new seal on the shift shaft, in many cases there is a groove worn in the shift shaft that makes the new seal too loose. |
