Question HELP ! with power steering please.

Hi, I,m putting engine together from scratch , 340 with power steering. with power steering pump bolted on engine with what I hope are the correct brackets pump pulley does not line up with either of the TWO grooves on my crank pulley. do i need a 3-groove pulley for power steering?or are their power steering pumps (saginaw) with shorter snouts?thanks, Brian.

How far are they off? Can you shim the pump bracket off the block with a few washers or even turn the pulley around on the pump shaft so the offset matches your pulley. Usually the 2 groove crank was for power steering, maybe you have a mismatched pump/bracket.

with what I have now an extra groove on front of crank pully would line up perfect. but I dont have a 3-groove pulley to put on engine and if it shouldn't require a 3-groover then either pump is wrong(would need to have a shorter snout) or maybe a offset to the back pulley? or offset to the back brackets? as mentioned pump, brackets were obtained seperatly from unknown sources. any ideas?

The pump came off a car with A/C so you need a 3 groove lower pulley, that's all. I can get you a pic of mine latter if you need it.

if thats the case then i could get a pump for a non A/c application and it should have a shorter snout right? it would be easier for me to get reman. pump than to find a 3-groove pully.( not even sure pump i have is any good)pictures of pump/brackets would be a BIG help.i will probally take my pump to parts house tomorrow an compare it to one for my application.

Pumps are all the same, no such thing as a short snout pump. Brackets are different and the 3 groove pulley should be plentifull at any junk yard off of any 318 with air. I'll try to get you a pic Mon.
