Default Pistons, I need em.

Well it's time to bore the 340. I supose I could fork out $500 or more for a set of Diamond, Ross or whoever else.
Just want some flat top forged pistons. What do you think is the best bang for the buck?

hello, speed pro has, pistons. L2385f, L2316F, L2322F, with dome removed on 2322f. 2385/ 65 cc head= 8.5 to 9.4 cr., depending on deck hgt.2316/65 cc head= 10.06 cr. , 2322/65 cc head= 11.06 cr. this is from speed pro book.

Thanks, I called Diamond they want $551.20 for pistons and $143.00 for rings! Geez $700 bones!

How about the KB243 pistons for $220.00 at summit?

For 340s in .020, .030, .040, .060 oversize. About a 9.5 to 1 compression with iron heads. Plus they are lighter than the old TRW/Spead Pro slugs.

hello, the hypertectic pistons are brittle, will not take any abuse, piston /wall
clearances are critical and ring gaps have to be very wide. the stock cast piston will last better then the hyper and are far more forgiving. the whole idea when reringing a motor is to close up the ring gaps, not make em wider.
I thought you were looking for a forged piston? the speed pro L2322F/with dome removed is way lighter than the other forged pistons from speed pro.
mancini has speed pro for $349 a set. just food for thought.

Well..here we go..hypereutectic is the correct spelling.

Been using them in my 360 race car for sometime now, it went 10.79 as noted in my signature and that was at 2000 ft in Vegas. So they can not take any abuse?

I would assume that if you read the instructions on how to install them they would work fine.

That's my opinion.....

And those Speed Pro are slugs..i have used them too...you can break your foot if they fall on it...LOL

hello, didn't know this was a trap set up!! I was told this by the guys at KB pistons. and besides, the really fast guys use LW forged pistons. just food for thought.

We used them in our dirt rack engines too. Dirt racing is the hardest on any engine and the KB's hold up just fine if set up right.

I think the level of abuse was of 2 thinking wave lengths when you spoke to KB. If it were I going for the Gold, forgde slugs would be my bet.
Nothing wrong with KB's. Brittle? Yes. Tuff enuff? Yes. Must they be set up correctly? More so than others because of the high silicone content that makes them brittle. Proper ring gap and timing to avoid detonation will have these lasting a long time.

Have had hyper's (KB) in my 451 Bee for 11 years with good results. A basically stock motor that run's high 12's in street trim.
However, that being said, if you plan on a power adder of some sort, in the future, I would consider forged. Wiesco makes a good piston, and with an added ring package throwen into the mix, they can be had for a reasonable price. Forged pistons are NOT a guarantee against breakage under detonation. But they will give a little more time to correct the problem.

If it were me, I would try to save the money elsewhere. While not rocket science, yanking the motor and tearing it down/building back up is not exactly easy, so i would only want to do it once.

IMO, decide what piston serves your needs best and use it. SRP makes a nice piston, and they are pretty light.

I use KB hypers in my 340 with no problems. It has been six months of nearly constant buse/street racing and no such problems. But then again I don't have detonation problems either.

Default This is a question dear to my heart..........

I have been putting off building my 340 for 2 years now, ( with no hurry because I don't have the Dart to put it in. ) I want pistons that will hold up. I have a bad habbit of winding my engines to 8 plus and many won't hold up. But cost is scary. I want to build it and KNOW it will do it without a burp. I wouldn't mind spending for the forged if I just knew who was up to the task.

A builder I know is going to take a look at the engine. Will hear what he has to say. Thje TRW's that were in there lasted 25 years of abuse! They are heavy though.
