i have a hole in my
intake manifold. if you thought i was gonna say head, that is probably right, too... lol
inside the intake manifold (a stock 2bbl intake for a 360) under the right throttle bore is what appears to be a threaded hole about an inch in diameter. there is no plug in that hole, and i have no idea where it leads. i have no other small block manifolds to compare it to, and this intake seems to be rather rare. at least, it is in trucks as something like only 11% of the 74 trucks in them had 2bbl carbs with 360's in them. i have to say, though this isnt the original engine. i dont know what it came out of, and i dont have any numbers yet. what is this hole for, and should it have a plug in it? it is a little more than 1" deep, i think, but it does not go through the manifold. i am not positive that it is threaded, it feels like it is, though. not sure about the size, i didnt measure it. it was raining and i had to get the carb on the engine when i discovered it. the engine seems to run ok, i havent had a vacuum gauge on it yet.

This is called a floor jet, it is an EGR passage that is sometimes drilled and threaded for a jet that recirculates exhaust gas to the intake.
They are found alone or sometimes in pairs, one on each side of the plenum. Often one side will have a thread-in jet and the other side an unfinished cast hole. |

These floor jets are found on 360 4bbl intakes as well. (A little inert gas never hurt performance.) |

thanks, guys. i had seen these in a smaller version in my edelbrock intake. something like 5/16"or 3/8". i didnt know what they were, but some smoke blown through them (in the eddy) convinced me that they werent anything to worry about. if this one had been smaller, i wouldnt have been concerned, either. i didnt notice if there was one on the left side... i didnt drop a bolt in that side . and i was in kind of a hurry... it was raining.
just wanted to make sure that something wasnt supposed to go there that might have been important. fwiw, the egr stuff went a different way than the truck long before i ever saw it. thanks again for the replies.

If you block off the heat crossover, then plug the hole, I would not recomend running with those open.

I always plug them too. I am worried they might fill with raw fuel.
