Roger H, Riddle me this???
Ok, You here about how much better the Eddies are on a traditonal LA Motor
And you here how much Better Magnum heads are on a LA Motor "although before the new intakes from Edelbrock come out" you had to Tap them to take an LA intake. Which Head Is going to be the Best for an LA Motor. The Eddie RPM or the Eddie Mag head and why?? Thx Diego |

2 cents
Forgive me jumping in before RogerH whom is , well, well qualified over me.
Magnum head #61779 176cc 75cc 58cc 5/8" 2.02" 1.60" 1.45" 3/8" 5/16" .580" 95 Comando head #60779 171cc 77cc 63cc 5/8" 2.02" 1.60" 1.45" 5/16" .575" 95 Flow table as per Edelbrock; Comando............100......200........300......40 0........500.......600 #60179, #60779.. 69/64 129/108 188/142 232/171 249/183 251/190 Magnum ............#61779.. 62/52 119/105 175/142 225/169 251/185 260/190 As you can see the older Comando heads have an advantage in the lower lifts till .500 were there spread by only 3 cfm on the intake in favor of the Magnum head. From there, the Magnums take over by only 9 cfm @ .600. The greater lower lifts (or curve) makes a better street head. On the exhaust, there pretty close, close enuff to say, toe to toe. Since your dealing with a older block and questioning which head, the 1.6 rocker ratio (Magnum head) will make the cam more intense. Quicker openings are a good thing. (Theres also a 1.7 ratio for the Magnum head. More intense opening and greater lift. Now you really have to watch it on valve to piston clearance and coil bind. Same trick applies to the Comando head with 1.6 rockers.) If price is not an issue, I would opt for the Magnum heads for the greater rocker ratio to make the cam more intense. That should help cover any short comings in the intakes lag in lower lifts, which ain't much at all. Price wise, standard head. For the future with porting involved. ??????? Just my 2 cents, sorry. Humble apologies to RogerH and Diego |

Hey, I don't mind, come right on in!
Some really good points there. The Magnum head is also a newer design, and the ports are going to be more refined, since they have more experience behind them, meaning experience of the person designing them. They have about the same horsepower potential from either head. The magnum head was done in response to all the magnum crate engines Mopar is selling. I think the biggest advantage in horsepower would be the combustion chamber, with the magnum chamber being 58cc's and the standard SB head being 63cc's. |

Like Rodger said, The combustion chamber on the Magnum head is smaller. Its also a better design. I think these heads would make a killer 340 head street/strip head. Better then the LA. You should have no problem building a 11:1 compression pump gas motor with them. However if your building a stroker your going to be getting in to some pretty high compression with them.
