Default 360 Block

How do I identify the year of a 360 block? Is the date code stamped in the format of Day - Month - Year on the block? I need a buildable block and everyone keeps asking "What year"?

Thanks

Engine I.D. number stamped on the driversidea/front just below the cyl. head or deck serface. The first charter is a letter or number relating to the year. As follows;
A or 5 = 65, B or 6 = 65, and so on until 1970 where the number goes to "0" and the letter is F., 1 or G = 71, 2 or H = 72, etc...

Looks like a P 1 to me, Also there is a 24 - 8 - 83 cast into the block. August 24, 1983??

Thanks

I have "P" as a '79 block. Next letter K-M-T- W is plant location, next is engine series, 318-340-360 next is special info. This could beanything. Mostly letters. A "3" would be specail high performance, HP would be High Performance "S" would be super super rare and worth money!
Then comes date codes. a set of 4 numbers. That would be the year. Then follows 4 more numbers for daily production sequence. Example, 001 would be the first block of the day, 3567 would be the 3567th block of the day. Tomorrow starts with 001 again.

The casting date is cast on the passenger side of the block, behind the motor mount ears, along with an arrow pointing to a D or an N (presumably for day or night shift). I'm not sure whether it is day, month, year; or month, day, year; or if it was rearranged at some point. My 340 says 6-18-68, and my 360 says 4-7-71. Hope that helps.

If the first character in the stamped serial number is "P", it usually stands for "Plant" and will be followed by the plant designation and the displacement. Example, PT360 is a 360 from the Trenton plant. There are additional numbers for the build date and sequence number.
