Default 66 A-body pitman arms

I'm planning out the front end rebuild on the 66 Barracuda. 73 A disc brakes, poly/ mix with oem LCA bushings etc.... Fpund pix of reinforced K-frames but haven't found anything on beefing uo the pitman/ idler arm area. Any early A-body people out there do this? going for corner carving, looking at the fast ratio, but didnt find them for 66. Any mods that can be done to the K-frame to accept the 73 up arms? Would swap to a 73 up K-frame but I'm under the impression that they didnt fit A's prior to '67.

You're correct. The 'K' member will not interchange. I re-inforced my k frame because I cut it for pan clearance. The member is pretty light.

Anywhere you can put a gusset, or weld in a triangle where there is an intersection would help. I personally would pay attention to the steering box mount as I broke one on my '65. Cracked the mount so my steering would give me serious speed wobbles at around 20 MPH, scary on the road! Had to scrap the original K and get another one. Alterk8tion (?) makes a sweet tubular K and tubular A arms that can be viewed on their website to give you an idea on what can be done with lots of time, lots of skill, and lots of TIG wire. The 67 and newer were wider than ours.

Default it's the pits

Iv'e seen where people have welded a piece of steel on top of the pitman arm where they are on later models. If you take a look at the later style you'll see what I mean. All you have to do is use a longer bolt and some gussetting for the upper plate that you installed. Good Luck....

All good info. May I suggest that you have the member bolted in place while atleast tacking all add-ons and much of the welding. Never know if things are going to 'pull'.
