Default Hows this combo sound?

This is going to be my street car
69 Barracuda.
340 9.5:1 compression
Gasket matched and bowl ported J heads (maybe Magnum heads) with 1.88/1.60 valves
Ld340 intake Eddy 600 carb
CompCams XE268 or XE274 ?

1-5/8" headers
2.5" exhaust with X-pipe

A904 with 2.77 first gear. 10" converter.
3.91s Itty Bitty 215-70-14s

I want a nice street car with good low end power and a very strong mid range pull.

That sounds like a very straight forward project. I would consider the magnum route. Cheaper than the J's, with their superior exhaust runners and go with the cheaper Professional Products Air-gap knock-off as it can accomadate the straight magnum bolt pattern. The LD will not work with the Magnums. 10 inch convertor? Might as well go with a stocker with that cam and those gears. Itll be a fun ride.

Im trying to use as many parts as I already have. Thats the main reason for the LD340 and the 10" converter.

I also want it to look pretty stock. The Airgap wont look stock no matter what I do.

As for the the converter. Im using it now with a stock 340 cam and its working well.

Since were making use of what we have and not getting crazy on everything new...

This looks to be preety good. A look into cams is key. The 268 looks to be nice. I'll have to look at the catolog later to compare.
If you allready have the J head, use it and just bowl port it. That'll be good with the LD-340. The 600 cfm is a little low on it's capacity to feed the engine. But will do. You can modify it a tad to work better.

What exactly do you have in stock?

For the XE274 Comp recommends the 995-16 springs which are dual valve springs.

Thats why I bought a XE268 instead, so I could stay with the single springs.

It should work good for you.

What MAgnum intake do you have?
A pre-Magnum cam with use with magnum heads and rockers equal a nice lift increase and added cam intencity.

I like that Idea myself. Nothin like free lift from Magnum heads with the LA cams. Also love my LD-340. Hell of an intake. Then again, mine is modified somewhat for use with a T-Q.

The pistons would be expensive. But it would pull like mad.

Really?!?!? How cool is that!?!?! Cam? Heck, thats a choice for the owner. 2 many to chose from. I'd purchase a spit pattern in the RPM sought. Leave it at that.

Do the "LA" block and use the magnum heads and save on cams. Reap the benny's of the 1.6 ratio on a designed 1.5 cam. Have the heads redrilled for about $60 to accept "LA" intakes.
