mechanical adv question
ok... just bought a reman dist for my stock (i think) 1977 360. it is in a 1974 D100. the original dist had 34* of mech adv built into it, the reman has 26*. i had to take the reman dist apart to find out, because autozone sells the same dist for ALL 318/360 engines, regardless of year or application, and i needed some idea of where to set the initial timing.
my question is: while i have the reman dist apart, should i change the heavy spring to a light spring, or leave it like it is? this truck is going to be my "experiemental race truck" this season, but i would just as soon minimize some of the experiments for the time being. any input will be greatly appreciated.

If the engine is still stock I would leave it be till you get a cam and some other bolt ons installed.
