Default K-frame problem

Why '72 k-frame shocks won't fit in '73 k-frame?
What are good shocks for street racing?

'73 K frame has an ISO suspension, it's attached to the body with rubber bushings. There is other defferencies too, like hte torsion bars, their attachment etc. Would make sence to me that the shocks are different too, maybe different length?

The shcoks are longer on the '73. For shocks, nothing beats Pro, Carrera, Biltsien, Afco. The over the counter stuff aint worth much. Sometimes worse than stock. The Koni, KYB stuff is a little better than the over the counter parts store stuff, but not by much.

All in all, the '73 & up B-body front suspension isn't as good as the earlier one, except if you are looking for noice reduction or comfortability of the ride. But not for streetracing or drag racing anyway.

Actually that's incorrect. It's actually much better than the older set up due to the fact it uses a taller spindle and a better axis inclination and A arm angle. With either poly graphite or the aluminum or steel bushing replacements between the K frame and rails it makes the best B body suspension designed.

Well, theres a vote for racing and a vote for street. LOL

What car is this for anyway?

My '79 Magnums K-frame is an ISO deal. I really like the stock ride. Better sway bars would be nice. But the stock ones were not to bad. I raided a '78 Cordoba for the rear sway bar. In addition to the front the Magnum had, it really improved the ride alot. Not that you would find me auto crossing with it.

Isn't it a heavier set up too? Can those things be corrected in the older style? How about the torsion bars and their rear attaching point? I believe there is not much to choose from what comes to the newer design torsion bars?

DartGT66;

I don't know if it's heavier. Many of the later B body cars that came with this frame have bigger discs,, mine are the big 11's. The added weight of the biscuits are nil. Theres a slight design change that may add a tiny bit of weight at best.
The T-bars are longer than older B & E's but shorter than C bodys. This does limit the T-bar selection to slant 6's if you can find one (Ha ha ha ha) , small block and big block.

Small block, big block and slant six bars are really all you need unless your racing pval tracks with different bankings. It might ne 3 to 5 lbs heavier than the older one due to 2 inches added to both spindles and the bushings have some steel sleeves and washers in them. There is also a very easy mod to move the rear T bar mount forward if you want to use standard B body T bars.

Yeah, unbolt the back t bar mount and cut the tbar slugs out of the bracket and slide em into the holes, just like they were made to do that.
Two inch taller spindles, what!
