Question

Can anyone tell me anything about the pistons in the mopar book under the P/N 4007042? They are forged pistons apparently made by TRW, rated at 11.5 , but with what cc chamber? With '78 heads,(not milled), any idea what compression I'd end up with? Without a book, I'm lost. Thanks!

All the 360 heads have about the same CC chambers.

I guess my next silly question will be "Can 11.5 be run on the street without detonation?" Short of adding octane boost at every 1/2 mile or so, is there any way from keeping it from rattling itself to death? Or have I gone way overboard on the compression?
Thanks to whoever can help!

I don’t think you can easily answer that question without knowing some other variables such as the actual static compression (PSI), advertised compression ratio (11.5), piston ring seal and camshaft duration and over lap.

A ‘small’ camshaft with little duration and overlap will build higher cylinder pressure that could cause detonation. Now switch to a longer duration camshaft with more overlap and see what happens. Your static compression goes down and your detonation problems may go away.

Brian: I'll be running a Crane cam, 226/230 @050 with 458/465 lift. Auto.,stock stall,Holley street dominator c/w 750 Holley, headers, ported & polished heads, high volume oil pump and a hope and a prayer. Thinking about tunnel ramming, but that may or may not come later.Car is heavy.
As you can see, I have lots of duration, and lots of crossed fingers! Think it might work?

Sanders,

Kicken combination for a small block. Youn need to know the actual compression ratio when the psitons are installed. You should be able to run a 'true' 10.0:1 withour troubles.

Email me and I'll send you my conbination in my 340.
