vacuum leak or cam???
hello
i just swapped my cam after it wiped alobe (after replacing some soft lifters) i had the 284/484 mp cam with the 114 lobe separation, it was great, lots of low end, lots of torque, reasonable idle and good vacuum. i replaced it with the comp cams extreme #21-225-4. the mp cam specs 241 @ .050 whille the comp specs @ 240 - 246 @ .050 the lift is almost the same at 484 vs 501 but the lobe separation is 110 now my low end seems spongy, it dosent pull quite as hard (although i havent been to the strip yet to confirm) and the car idles at 1300 rpm in park and drops to 600rpm in drive (the mp idled at 800 in park and 700 in drive) and now my power brakes are suffering due to less vacuum is this problem because of the cam lobe seperation or because of a intake vacuum leak???? its a 440 so swapping the vally pan is my next option if nessasary sorry for the long post but this is my daily driver and the car is hard to handle in slow traffic now thanks jason |

It's your cam. With a lot more lift, different lobe seperation, and now a dual pattern duration cam, this is what has caused your problems.

Double check for vacumm leaks to be sure with carb cleaner around the inatke and head areas.
The 114 vs. 110 seperation is a big difference. That of which DWC said is a for fact contributor. |
