looking for an A4 engine?
Im just want to find out more about the engine..anyone know about them?
How much they are, o they pop up used? i really can't find anything on them thanks steve |

If you are asking about an Audi 4 cylinder, go to GoogleSearch and punch in A4. You will find lots of stuff. If so, why ask on Moparchat?

You guys havn't seen a Mopar performance catalog in a while, have you? The A4 he's referring to is a 4-popper made by Mopar that uses smallblock heads, hence: A4. They even make one for the P5 hemi head. Allpar.com has some info on them.

Thanks for the heads up, Torch. I didn't know that and I think it took Rumble by surprise too. Actually, if you punch in A4 on the Google search, you will find all kinds of stuff that is not engine related. Thanks again.

They are used in both circle track and drag racing. Here is some basics from MOPAR.
let's talk about the inline, four-cylinder midget engine. It's all-aluminum and might be considered a circle track engine, but that isn't really true. First there is an all-aluminum midget inline four-cylinder race engine assembly (P5007961) that makes 350 hp from 166 cubic inches. It has a 4.129" bore and a 3.075" stroke. This is an actual midget engine, called an A4. The basic midget aluminum block is P5007466 with an 8.40" deck, and the new 9.00" deck block is P5007935. Note: The tall deck allows for a long rod, short block package. Both of these blocks use the midget-style motor mount that means that there is no bellhousing. This also means that the block lays over (to preload the left side of the chassis) when mounted normally. Then there is the drag race version (P5007467), which uses the P5 Hemi heads (P5007509AB and valve cover P5007642) and has a bellhousing. It is designed to sit straight up, which is desired by drag racers. The two midget blocks are designed for the W9-style Wedge head because midget racers are obsessed with weight and the P5 Hemi heads are heavier. Engine weight is not as much of a concern in the drag race categories. There is another four-cylinder block for use with Wedge heads. It has a 9.00" deck, a bellhousing and the very common (and popular) 4" bore. This block could be used in drag racing if the W8 or W9 style Wedge heads were desired, but this block was really designed as an inexpensive and easily built, but very strong engine for four-cylinder classes. Note: The tall deck blocks also allow for longer strokes. The forged crank (P5007907) has the 3. 075" stroke and 4.00" bore pistons are readily available. To date, most of the midget race cars use a Kinsler mechanical fuel injection package. The first three blocks listed come with a 4.125" rough bore which cleans up at 4.13". The basic midget engine is about 165 cubic inches or 2.7L. All of these blocks can be over-bored and stroked to much larger displacements. The latest sprint car and midget cylinder head is the W9 RP raised port (P5007904). At the track this seems to come down to increased air flow making more power and less torque. These features are only seen to be an advantage only at the big tracks! The original W9 is still the best package for shorter tracks. Note: The inline, four-cylinder-only classes in drag racing like F/ED, F/D and J/A have minimum weights in the 900 to 1100 lbs. Area, which puts the minimum engine displacement in the 150- to 200-cubic-inch area. If the race vehicle can get close to these minimum weights so that overall weight is a major concern, the W9 RP package may be the better choice. While most of the common displacements are based on the midget rules, more displacement can easily be gained by a "pro" engine builder. Remember that this inline four-cylinder engine is closely related to half of the "A" engine, which can easily run in sprints at 410 inches! Typically, these longer strokes will require a billet crank available from Scat, but consider the raw forging (P5007573) for your "custom" application. |

ok the forged crank is $1600 and the wedge block is $5400...thats alot..i think the aluminum small block is cheaper!
