Red face 727 leaking

My Trans has been leaking from the speedo cable fitting since I installed a new cable. Did I miss a gasket or o-ring that should be there? Should there even be trans fluid in this area? Any help would be appreciated.

There is a seal, in the speedo pinion that keeps tranny fluid from going into the speedo cable.

I changed speedo gears at the same time for a different axle ratio, is that the pinion you are speaking about? If so there was no seal on it, where could I get one? Are they all they same?

there is a seal that is held in by a steel c-ring in the housing and also an o-ring on the outer circumference.

Yes, that is the speedo pinion gear. You should be able to get the seal at your local dealership, parts store, or transmission shop.

Walk into a transmission shop and ask if they will sell you one. They'll probably give it to you instead of writing up a sales ticket for a 18 cent piece. Mine gave me a sector shaft seal for free.

howdy I dont mean to come in and take the focus from Bwlizards qustion but I thout id just post it here insted of makin a new thread

My 727 non lock up is leaking out fluid in the front the front end were the torq conv. is located at.
I noticed it leaking realy bad at a parking lot
I was gone for 8 minuts and when I came back a huge puddle of new tranny fluid was layin on the ground probly 1/2 a quarts worth of fluid.
and I had a new motor put in a month ago and it never leaked before that but ever since I had a new motor I noteced it leaking but it was a slow leak but then it would leak graduly faster each time I drove my truck till now its loosing fluid faster than I can pour it in and it all leaks from the front wher the tranny conects to the motor at the bottom of the bell housing

Do yall think It would just be the seal to the torq conv.or could it be leaking around the entire pump?

It is more thqn likely the seal where the converter goes into the pump.

Only you can tell us, after you pull the transmission and look.

well ok I pulled the tranny and looked and pulled the seal out as well
and the seal isnt torn or anything its just more limpyer than a new seal

and it does not look like fluid is leakin thrue the pump.

you should also check the converter hub where the seal rides for any groove that may have been worn in it. this is quite common, and a repair kit is available... just ask for a "speedy-sleeve" at the parts store. they are MUCH cheaper than a converter, and will last as long as the converter does.

well the TC is in fine smooth shape at the hub and I put a new seal on it and put it all back in the truck

let it run for awile and saw no leaks so I took it for a drive today and all the sudden the sound of a sledge hammer bangin on sheet metel started commin stait throu the floor board where my tranny is located at and I pulled over got on my hands and knees and saw fluid POURING out of the front of the bell housing and

thats it Iv been beat by my own truck that tranny has 418,000 miles on it and Im not gona risk reparin the problem and then wate for somthin else to break NO!

Im just gona find some way to make a 4 speed O/D work and just do away with that

I was wantin one for my buudy truck but he sold it and now im realy n the hunt for one for me so oh well I will tell ya guys how it all works out for me but in the mean time I aint got nothin to drive so I also dont have a job (but im lookin for one) but I do have $80.00 right now so anyone have any Ideas on what I can do?

If my truck had a mind I wonder what it would be thinkin right now? :flip:
