Are aluminum connecting rods worth the extra money? What is the real benefit? lighter reciprocating assembly? strength? both? I'm planning to build low 11, high 10 car with 440. Which rods are the best buy? eagle, bill miller, ect....
thanks for input motor |

Well aluminum rods became popular years ago because it was easy to fabricate some rods from aluminum, but rather difficult to make them from steel. These days that is no longer true as several companies have off the shelf steel rods for Mopars. All out race motors use aluminum rods for weight reasons but I doubt that you need aluminum rods in a 10 second car. Aluminum rods require a lot more maintenance than steel rods so they aren't really a good idea for the typical bracket racer.
If I was going to build a bracket short block I'd probably use Manley rods and a lightweight piston/pin combo. That should last a long time with no maintenance required. I'd also build a 451 rather than a 440 but that is another topic. |

I'd use either Manley or the Eagle steel rods.
