Stroker engine problem
I was going to build 500cid stroker engine.
What kind of camshaft works best in stroker engine? Should I make some modifigation on block? ( oiling system ) |

Crane has a "Monster Motor" line of cams that are designed around big stroke/big CID motors. Oiling mods should be left to high RPM mills. Stock should be sufficient, as there is a growing trend to move away from high volume/high pressure oiling systems in street cars.

Also, in addition, if your not going to use a serious set of heads to really take advantage of the huge volune of air in a 500 CID engine, you will have an engine really no beter than a 440.
Indy has some very nice heads for such sized engines. Or top end packages. They do there oil system in a different way. Not hard to set up. http://indyhe.fatcow.com/ |

Wouldnt it be wise to get a cam with decent lift but rather moderate duration ? So that youd have a decent low rpm idle (with 500 cubes id imagine fuel consumption would be an issue with a lumpy high idling cam) Also so it could work with the long stroke and great lowend/midrange power that an engine like that would make?

Fuel consumption won't be an issue.
It will use plenty, no matter what you do Unless you're planning an ultra mild towing motor, you will need aftermarket heads(like indy SR's) and a custom ground cam. A 500 inch motor will make good power, and will idle well with the same cam that idles poorly in a 440. It moves enough air to still run good, and maintain good air velocity. |

Interesting, I was just kinda speculating though. I hear those Bulldog heads that just came out are pretty nice too. I think Hughes sells them. Also, I cant remember the engine builder but they have a 626 hp pump gas stroker 440 for like 9 grand I think that runs those bulldog heads. Something like 11 grand broken in and dyno tested ect with all the fluids. Not a bad price at all for that much power.

I would honestly go with a custom cam. I highly recommend Racer Brown. You give him all of the engine specs, body weght, gear ratio, tire size, auto/manual, and tell him your expecatations of the vehicle. He will then custom grind a cam for your application. He is only about $50 more than a Comp Cams.
