Question Mopar Performance Advance Springs

Hi

I have fitted Mopar Performance (part number P2932675)ignition advance springs to a Six Pack distributor on a 440.

I am getting 55 degrees of advance at 1300rpm, which is causing pinking.

Has anyone used these springs, and do I need to make other mods?

Thanks

One, set the total timming to 34* and do NOT hook the vacuum advance back up. It's most likely causing the problem. The springs only control how fast the mechanical advance kicks in, not how much it gains. That's controled by the slots in the dist. for the advance weights.

Question Mopar Peformance Springs

Hi

Can you alter the amount of total advance by modifying those slots?

If so, how do you know how much yu have taken out?

Yes you can, first you much check how muck centrifugal advance you have and hten measure and calculate the amount you fill the slots. Actually that should be done, and would be easiest to do with a distributir machins, but I have done it a couple of times without and the results have been close to intended.

if you weld up approx. 1/3 of the end of the slots it will be close to 36-38 degrees .it works for me,only on a b-rb dist. though!

That would depend on the lenght of the slot. They are different for every application.

Actually I have yet to see adistributor with welded slots offering 36-38 degrees of centrifugal. A good goal is to shoot for about 15-20 degrees of centrifugal, then you have 15-20 at idle which work in most cases. I have mine all in at about 2200 rpm, 11.5:1 CR and 93 octane pump gas, 33 degrees total.
