Thinking about edelbrock heads

Is there any other thing I need to consider before buying these? These are just a bolt on and go? I can still run the factory cooling system or do I need to go reverse flow? thanks.

Bolt and go pretty much. No need for a reverse flow set up. A good mod to use, like what we use on our race cars, is to tap the intake and pipe the water from the rear of the heads and route it straight to the waterneck housing. It helps keep temps even in the heads. Less chance of cracked heads and such. But that works on any car.

Hey rallye72, check out flat lander racing. When I bought mine they were the cheapest for the heads almost three hundred dollar less than summit.
That is assuming you are doing a small block.

Summit

Flatlander

Sorry for the double post, but I would recommend a good head gasket like a felpro perfromance one. You may also want to consider any other mods you want to do at the time. When I replaced my heads I also did a cam swap since I was already working on it. I would also suggest a good set of arp head bolts. Remember that aluminum heads require several rounds of retorqueing on the head bolts. After I initially test fired the engine and broke in my cam, as per before I did the swaps at the same time, I let it cool down and retorqued it back to specs. I then drove the car for a few hours and came back and retorqued them again after a several hour cool down. I never had any problems with them after the install. Also it would be pretty cool to do a magnum head swap on your motor if you ever thought about it. I like the look and flow numbers of edel's new heads. I am just too poor to go buy a new intake, rockers, pushrods, and anything else associated with the swap.
Anyway good, luck, and nice head choice.

I just bought a set for my 440 Cuda. Flatlander is the cheapest but the shipping is high. Go back to Summit and tell them you can get the same heads at Flatlander for $1229 and they will beat the price and the shipping is only $8.95. I know on Flatlander's web site it says $1199 but if you read down it says the price went up $30. Summit will beat it by $1 but it's still cheaper when you add in the shipping.

Use there bolt set. For the small block, theres 1 longer bolt. I got the set from my old speed shop as part of a deal. ARP head bolt set.

I've used the Felpro Blue in all my builds up to 600 HP and never had a problem in 15 years. I read that the Cometic gasket will handle 1600+ HP with out O ringing the block.
I think the Felpro blue will do just fine in the 600 HP range if the machine shop does the right work.

I too would like to know what specific problems you've had with the Fel-Pro gaskets. I've used, and in some cases re-used these gaskets in hi compression, hi HP engines and never had a problem. So what's up?........djs
