Confused No 3rd gear

I yarded the 318 in the wifes duster the other day and replaced it with a 360. The tranny stayed in the car and I swapped in a mopar performance stall converter. I hooked up everything back to the way it was and now third gear is gone. The first to second shift is there but will not go into 3rd even if I manually shift. The trans is a 727 with a hurst promatic2 shifter. What could be the problem?

I supose it's the correct converter and installed correctly. Are you sure the kickdown is set up right?

Everything acts normal just missing 3rd. All other gears are great. I rigged the shifter in 3rd and moved the trans selector lever on the trans to the 3rd gear detent, shifter cable popped right in. It shifted fine before. It almost acts like its stuck in the passing gear.

It's Fixed!

Don't know what happened! I said the hell with it loaded up my 5 year old and went for a ride hit. 1st, then 2nd. and after about an 1/8 mile she popped into 3rd. went for a 30 mile ride out of town and thru some smaller towns and she shifts perfectly now! Maybe a piece of dirt got stuck in a valve somewhere in the tranny! Thanks guys!

trannies, arent they funny? the one in my racetruck blew 3 quarts of fluid out in one lap (from the dipstick) and never did it again
the one in my ram quit moving one day, except for reverse, went to pul it in the shop, and it worked perfect, that was 2 years ago.
im glad you didnt have to spend any more effort or money on it, now enjoy!

I lost 3rd gear once after installing a shift kit. Pulled the valve body and noticed the one of the fluid passege walls cracked (maybe from the extra pressure?) Some JB weld fixed the problem so I could get home (I was 250 miles from home when 3rd went away.)
