TD the only reason I'm using a 60 amp alternator is that I could not find a 35 amp.
I have a stock 67 Barracuda with a stock electrical system, new engine compartment harness, new rear harness ,used dash harness only because I'm not using anything in the dash. The only thing thats gettng used is the ampmeter, that you advised that I disconnect. I'm using all aftermarket gauges ,volt, oil pressure, water temp, tach, headlights, this is a strip car.Trunk mount battery. My question is should I just use a 35 amp aletrnator and end of problem???? Thanx I really apprecicate your posts, this is all new to me. Ken 9.6-1 CR 383 mild strip car,MP electronic ignition. If i have to I will find a 35 amp alternator. If it solves the problem. |

The best advice I can give you is to disconnect the wire from the output terminal on the alternator. Start the engine, then connect a test current meter to the alternator output and the wire you removed (inline).
Give the battery a few seconds to recover then make sure all the electrical equipment that will be used at the drag strip is turned on. If the current draw is less than 40 amps I would have to say that there is not much risk there. If you are drawing more than 40 amps send another post and I'll walk you through a sound solution. By the way........it's easier to add to existing posts instead of starting over each time. |
