Default swapped 318 for 400

dodgetkboy78;

4/29/05, lifted the engine up and into the bay with the wifes help. We spent the day muscleing the engine and tranny around and slam duncked some headman Elites in at the same time. Starter is real hard, but figured it out. Very tight, very tight.

I failed to take many pictures, so some shots will be taken later and added to the thread.

In general, the Schmaucher kit was easy. Nicely powered coated, it fit well.

The stock 400 came from a donor '78 Cordoba. A "P" code 400, the only addition are headers and a viscous fan. Tranny got a deep pan.
The Cordoba also gave up a 9-1/4 rear w/3.23 cogs. They'll make way for 3.55's later.

now it's time to go put the rad and stuff in.

Good question. The viscous comes off the Cuda which is apart and not in use. Thats getting an electric set up.
Also, the drivetrain that was swapped into the Magnum comes from a Cordoba. It's a "P" code engine that powered a car with everything except moon roof. An electric fan up front would have to pull through the tranny cooler (Stock unit) A/C condensor and then rad.
I used everything except the exhaust manifolds, Headman Elites were employed, the stock air cleaner, a bottle neck in the system. Tried to use another factory air cleaner, but clearance is a problem. (At the valve cover. I'll snap a shot tomorrow so you can see.) The unsilenced MP unit is currently in use on top.
Lastly, the fan. An 8 bladed unit that was bad. Now I need a shroud. The OE shroud was wrecked.

This is a try at a "On the cheap" project.

I did run into a problem today. It was a running car through a column swap. Both columns worked fine. Now...after the swap, I can't start the car via the key. If fact, it does nothing.
I turn the key and I can here relays pick up by there sound. (Ting, sprong...)
I did leave the key in the on position and grabed the near by screw driver. Hit the starters 2 posts together and presto, she runs. (Open headers...ha ha ha ha ha)
Now the cruddy task of searching down the problem that didn't exisit before. I did take the time to look around and touch everthing I could think off possible that might have been knocked loose or off. Everybody seems OK. But not.

Being that I've been on this all week when it didn't rain or other more important things took place, I'm a little tired so I put it down.
Still have a few knick knacks to take care of. Driveshaft, linkage to the tranny, theres a gromet I need to get, tighten motor mounts, new oil filter, new battery. (Stole the Dusters for this)
