Heater core
I have to change out my heater core in my non A/C 68 GTX. Anyone have a detailed procedure? Is the job difficult?
I knew the heater core would fail since I just installed high flow water pump & new radiator 2 weeks ago. It was the next weak link. Thanks in advance |

It's a pain. You'll have to pull the dash back, and then when you get the case out, you'll have to split it too.

Damn.... I was hoping the "B" bodies were a little easier than that. Anyone out there know any short cuts?

Sorry about that. No short cuts that I know of.

No need to molest the dash, but you'll have to remove the glove box.
When everything is disconnected pull the heater box rearward to clear the mounting studs and rotate it so the firewall side is facing up and snake it from under the dash. |

Well I changed out the core last night. I now see why people sometimes just bypass the heater core when it goes bad. Freaking nightmare trying to get the unit out. I actually never totally got the heater/blower housing out of the car. I did get it lowered to the floor board level, then used a mirror to see fasteners that I had to remove. Hard to reach the fasteners but finally finished after 2.5 hrs.
