Question Somebody..Anybody?

Todays question..I am still a long ways away from firing up my 440 but something is bugging me. When I turn the engine over slowly by hand I hear a clicking or almost like a snapping sound. It sounds like it is just on a couple of cylinders, 5 and 8 I think. I didn't notice this when I turned it over before the heads where on and it does not come from all the cylinders. It sounds like it might be coming from the valve springs. Everything is new, valve springs, seals, cam and lifters. .509 cam centerline installed at 106 degrees, (yes, I checked it with a degree wheel, 3 times). ....Which leads to one more question. I have been reading a lot of the old threads here to learn as much as I can and I wish I had checked on this before but anyway. I never really considered my valve to piston clearance. The 906 heads were just "cleaned up" .020 I believe with KB Hypereutectic step head pistons with valve reliefs, part number kb236. Is there any concern with my valve to piston clearance? I guess since the pistons had cut outs I assumed it would be fine. Thanks for any help or advice.

If it is a snapping sound, I would venture to believe that maybe a slightly bent valve in the 5 or 8 chamber is hanging up in the guide (or a very tight guide) and the rising pressure of the compressing lifter is overcoming it, causing the valve to snap open or closed. get some oil pressure in there with a priming rod and rotate it a few times again. See if it still talks to you. Good luck.

I would concur with pishta.Sounds like a valve hanging up in the guide.
