Thumbs up

A few years ago there were a lot of talk about the Rhodes varable duration lifters.
The idea sounds like the holy grail.
I have heard from some that said they absolutely suck and are very noisy. And I have also heard from some who said they work great.
Has anyone here tried them. Its sounds like a neat trick but are they really worth fooling with?

I used them with a MP 280 cam in a 440. They make a slight ticking sound but I think it's a little smaller than the sound of mechanical lifter set up. I think they worked great; I got 16 mpg with the car and it still run high 12's at 109 mph with regular street tires. With a hot hydraulic cam I would use them anytime.

I used the Crane fast bleeds in my '70 Challenger. They were great. They are also alot more quiet than the Rhoads.

I have used both the Rhodes and the Crane varible lifters in a 440 with the MP 284-484 cam. they are both a improvement over standard lifters. The rhodes are noisier and make a little more low end power I would use them on a race motor. The crane lifters are quieter and make a little less low end than the rhodes I would use them on a street motor.
