Default 73 Swinger rear Tires

I posted this in a different section a while ago, but noone respoded, so i thought it might be in the wrong one, so ill put it in here too
Does anybody know what is the widest i can go for rear tires on a 73 Swinger without having to put mini or full tubs in it? Eventually the car is gonna get tubs, but not for a while. I am probably going to go with the SS springs out back, will that affect the size I can go with? I will be running either 15" rims all the way around, or 15"s in the front and 16"s in the rear.

Though I can't remember off the top of my head how different a 69 Dart is from the 73 in the rear wheel well, I can tell you that I ran 15" 255/60's on the back of my 69 with stock steel wheels. However I may have given the lips the old wooden ball bat treatment...

I am currently running 235x60x15 BFG T\A radials on the rear of a 74 Duster with plenty of clearance all. From memory the BFGs are 26.1" tall and 9" wide.

255/60's on 8" wheels is the widest that will fit your car without mods.

I swear I replied to your other post about this. I know for a fact that a 255 / 60 R15 on an 8" wheel is the widest you can go, but you'll need a special offset for an 8" wheel.

I would just stick with a 7" wide steel or cop car rallye wheel. I have a pair of 255 60 R15 Cooper tires on police rallye wheels that have never been driven. Just mounted and balanced. They've been sitting in my garage for about 2 years with the stickers and hairs still on the treads.

I don't know what I'm going to use them for.

i have fit a 265/60 15 on a 8in wide wheel, and its the worng back spacing it will fit more, and my car is low! the wheel is inside the wheel well (worn out springs) they did rub with passengers, but if you have superstock springs it should be fine. i belive you can fit a 10in tire under there, if you fit it right. I have seen a dart with a 10in rim before also.

Would I be able to go a little wider if I relocated the leaf springs? I have seen some kits for other cars that push the springs in 3 inches. Do they make those kits for A bodies, or is it even possible on that car without MAJOR modification. I do have a welder and plasma cutter and grinder, so a little fabrication or modification is fine, I just dont want to do anything major just yet. Oh, and I will be using the super stock springs.

Spring location kits are a big deal ith lots of fabbing. If you don't have a surface plate or a frame machine you wont be able to do it correctly since the frame has to be cut. Unless your running a real bad engine a 255 60 will work fine for ya.

Nah, not gonna be running anything bad just yet, Ill be running the 318 with an edelbrock performer intake, holley 650DP, summit cam, headers, carter fuel pump, MSD ignition and a few other goodies. Next year though, Ill hopefully have the 408 stroker done running W2 heads, dual quads on a tunnel ram and all of the goodies, hopefully putting out 600+ hp on pump gas! Then I will probably put a rear clip in it with a 4 link and coilover shocks, but who knows, ill figure that out then. Thanks for all the info guys
