Correct way to chain engine down???
I was at the local strip last weekend and broke the drivers side engine mount. I replaced both mounts and would like to know the "correct" proceedure for chaining the engine to prevent this from happening again.

I was looking into getting a torque strap from Schumacher as I've had a couple of mounts let go. It looks like a nice piece for $65 plus shipping.

This is just about the best way that I have found.
http://www.moparchat.com/forums/atta...achmentid=5224 It would be better if the cable was a little shorter and connected from the K member mount to motor mount ear 2 instead of motor mount ear 1. As it stands, it works great. It's also near impossible to see, unless you are looking for it. |

The Schumaker thing stands out like a sore thumb. The strap that I am using can't be seen, unless you are looking for it. As it stands, the motor mount was broken, before the strap was installed. I still haven't had a chance to get in there and replace the broken mount. The strap has withstood all of the abuse that I have thrown at it, with the 440.
Also, it only ran about $5 in parts... |

What is that made of? Looks like a 1/4" cable with a washer welded to one end? How about spherical rod ends on a turnbuckle, would that be too ridged?

I believe it is about ΒΌ" cable. The eylets are crimped on.
I like this better than the rods and turnbuckle, as it allows the motor mount to cushion the engine vibrations. I would think that the rods and turnbuckle would be about the same as a solid motor moun |

Here's a crop of the eyelet.

for what it's worth, the Schumaker torque strap is bulletproof, and attractive looking as well in my humble opinion, well worth the money, however, Ed's setup is good too and cost effective. 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other.

I just use a chain with a turnbuckle...
Ain't purdy, but it works. Have yet to brake a motor mount. |

The only problem with a chain is that they stretch. I switched from a chain to two rods on the bellhousing like a mid-plate.

Is that a manufactured cable or home grown?? Looks perfect for many of my projects... If manufactured, where did you get it?
I have a Schumacher setup on my Hemi car, it works, but that car was setup to do nothing but be intimidating.... I would like to be a little more inconspicous on some of my rides... |

bigiron, it's a home grown solution. I got all of the parts at my local hardware store. |

I don't think mine should be a problem since the bolts go into the back of the block. I used them there because the transmission crossmember was getting twisted out of shape.
One thing you guys will find whether you use a torque strap or chain is that the throttle response is much better. With the solid mount the throttle response will work on the gas and when you let off. Made my car a completely different animal on a road course. |
